‘Obama is irresponsible regarding seniors’

AMERICAN SENIORS ASSOCIATION HITS “SCARE TACTICS’

ATLANTA— “It is a low, cheap political shot for President Barack Obama to claim that the federal government cannot guarantee that Social Security checks will be covered after August 2 if a resolution to the debt ceiling issue is not resolved by the White House and the Congress,” says Phil Kent, CEO of the American Seniors Association (ASA) representing millions of members nationwide.

“Let the negotiations continue, and let’s hope the president stops taking political shots during media opportunities designed to scare senior citizens, members of the military, and others who depend on these regular payments. Since the government has made promises to various segments of our society, like seniors, they must be kept. Besides, the U.S. Treasury by law must keep $20 billion on hand at all times, and even Treasury Department sources acknowledge that seniors and the military can be paid after that date if there is no agreement,” Kent notes.

“Obama is being irresponsible in dealing with senior citizens. He and Democrats in Congress saddled the nation with expensive, tyrannical and unconstitutional Obamacare that he claims helps seniors, yet he falsely says he can’t guarantee that Social Security recipients can be paid next month. No wonder polls show the president is becoming increasingly unpopular with the majority of Americans,” Kent says.
