AMERICAN SENIORS ASSOCIATION REMEMBERS FOUNDER JERRY BARTON January 5, 2011—The American Seniors Association’s founder and great advocate for seniors in America, Mr. Jerry L. Barton, 73, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011. After retiring from a successful career in business serving as both Vice President of Genuine Parts Co. and President and CEO of Belknap Hardware, Barton went on fulfill his dream of founding a model seniors association for a new millennium, which was named NASCON, the National Association of Senior Concerns, in 2005. NASCON was later named the American Seniors Association in 2007. Barton understood and experienced, firsthand, the issues concerning seniors and the effects of changing legislation and changes in Social Security and Medicare programs. His understanding and experience were driving factors in his founding of ASA and building the organization on a solid foundation of hope and positive reform of the major programs that affect American seniors. Today, ASA wants to praise Jerry Barton and the legacy he leaves us. Barton believed in this cause, worked hard to promote and protect it, and wanted every member of the ASA family to participate in what he felt would ensure a brighter future for American seniors. Barton’s son and current President of ASA, Mr. Stuart Barton, while grieving the loss of his loving father, recently noted the importance of moving forward as his father would want and is continuing to ensure that his father’s legacy lives on. As expressed in Barton’s obituary printed yesterday in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the American Seniors Association, www.americanseniors.org.
